Originally published in conjunction with the centennial exhibition of the Nobel Prize in 2001, this newly revised and enlarged edition seeks to explore various threads of the web of creativity through an examination of the achievements of Nobel laureates from diverse fields and the milieux from which they drew inspiration. It also addresses questions arising from the creation of a new museum within a contemporary context.

*Major portions of this book originally appeared in Cultures of Creativity: The Centennial Exhibition of the Nobel Prize published in 2001 and copyright Science History Publications/USA & The Nobel Museum. The book was first published in Swedish, Människor, miljöer och kreativitet: Nobelpriset 100 dr, earlier the same year. A revised English edition appeared in 2002. The current edition includes further revisions as well as considerable new material, 2nd printing.

From reviews of the prior edition:

“ . . . The theme of creativity is effectively woven throughout, beginning with the creative process of the individual, and continuing with the impact that a creative environment can have first, on an individual, and ultimately, on the world. Illustrated. Suitable for all academic libraries. General readers; undergraduates through faculty.” —CHOICE

“The book is beautiful, with older photographs of laureates and pictures of the exhibit items in both black-and-white and color illustrating every page . . . ” —Chemical Heritage
